Defensive woe at Yate
August 23 2008
August 23: Hitchin were beaten 2-1 at Yate thanks to two defensive blunders. Dean Griffiths gave the home side the lead in the 35th minute, shooting home after Dean Gilbert had failed to clear his lines.
Hitchin had their chances after a quiet first 20 minutes, notably when a Carl Williams free kick was headed on by Michael Cox and Jon Woolf just failed to connect. Just afterwards, Tom Pepper was upended in the area, but Mr Morris the referee ignored pleas for a penalty.
Ten minutes into the second half, Paul Barnes headed Hitchin level, nodding home at the far post from a Michael Cox cross.
But in the 69th minute, another mistake led to Yate’s second goal. Derwayne Stupple’s backpass was seized upon by subsitute Michael Whittington and he made no mistake to make it 2-1.

John Akinde latched on to Craig Stone's cross to slide in at the near post to make it 2-0 on 45. August 23: Yate Town took top spot after their 2-1 win against Hitchin at Lodge Road. But it’s tight at the top, with Farnborough and Hemel both on seven points aswell. Hemel drew 1-1 with Chippenham in front of just 238 people at Vauxhall Road. Luke Gullick gave the visitors the lead, but a controversial equaliser gave Hemel a point. Tivvy had to play out the final 10 minutes with 10 men after Nathan Rudge had gone off injured. Halesowen and Cambridge are clicking into form after opening day upsets. Halesowen were comfortable winners at Bashley. Corby secured their first win, 2-0 victors at Stourbridge. Matt Nolan scored his first goal for his new club. Bedford were beaten again, 1-0 at Oxford City, Andrew Baird scoring the only goal. Arlesey let it slip

Two goals from Jamie Osbourne in the 71st and 73rd minutes gave Arlesey a 3-1 lead, but two penalties by Storer in the 76th and 90th minutes made it 3-3.
