Stotfold for the SSML?

April 18: United Counties League champions Stotfold may not be around to defend their title if the club’s bid to move across to the Spartan South Midlands League comes to fruition. The club want to move leagues in order to benefit from more local derbies. “The travelling would be much shorter in the SSML and it would an excellent new challenge for us,” said Chairman Phil Pateman. The club will then aim to move up the non-league pyramid once their ground improvements are completed. Pateman said Stotfold will have to spend £ 30,000 to bring their ground up to the required standard, but they are aiming to move midway through 2009-10. The bid to transfer is subject to approval and Stotfold will have to wait uintil mid-May for a decision. Stotfold are also in the Beds Senior Cup final this season.

April 12: Stotfold clinched their first ever United Counties League title in dramatic fashion, coming from 0-4 down at half-time to draw 4-4 with Long Buckby at Roker Park. Over 200 people attended the game, with a nervous Stotfold side collapsing in the first period. But goals from Ricky Case, Tawhid Juneja, Joel Mason and Paul Garrett, the last two in the final four minutes, drew Ian Allinson's side level. Stotfold will not be moving up the non-league pyramid, however and will be out to defend their UCL title next season.
